Prayer Evangelism

    Mar 14, 2018 | by Katy Kwon

Last year I was waiting in line at McDonalds (hey, don’t judge me) with my two oldest kids and rather heavy with our soon to be third. Two Korean women side-eyed me for a bit and then walked over and as they offered me some printed material asked genuinely ‘Do you know Jesus?’

Bless them, I do and a Korean greeting from me they quickly opened up and shared that they were missionaries sent by their church in Korea to help bring the people of BC to Jesus. I was struck by the seemingly outlandish love and generosity of their community to send them as I have never been approached by the multitude of Christians I know live right next to me.

Prayer Evangelism is simply talking to God about our neighbours before talking to our neighbours about God. It’s not an act saved for those who have evangelism on their top 3 spiritual gifts or for those we’ve raised money for to go ‘do ministry’ in a far off land. It’s gotten a bad reputation because hey, it can be super awkward and we are Canadian so we don’t do things like that! Plus all.the.fears.

This topic is not a "one-and-done" kind of thing; it is deeply experiential and personal. On Saturday, April 7 we will begin to engage this muscle and dispel some myths, to take hold of Matthew 28 and “GO and MAKE disciples.”  We've opened up registration for our Engage the Conversation seminar and I hope you'll join us.

Out of this we will launch small groups that will act as a cohort of peers. Together we will wrestle with this skill as we reflect, encourage, question, caffeinate, celebrate and grow.

    Will you join me?
