Environmental Stewardship

We have a new local partnership that we are excited to connect you with - A Rocha Canada

At Jericho, we believe the universe and everything in it belong to God the Creator. God has entrusted the care of the earth to all people, who are responsible for managing its resources. Good stewardship uses the earth’s abundance to meet human need, but resists the unjust exploitation of the earth and its peoples. (MB Confession of Faith, Article 15).

To help us in this journey, we are partnering with A Rocha Canada. A Rocha is an international Christian organization which, inspired by God’s love, engages in scientific research, environmental education, community-based conservation projects and sustainable agriculture.

We are growing our engagement with them here in Surrey at the Brooksdale Environmental Centre. Located at 16 Ave and 192 Street, Brooksdale’s 18-acre property is a living lab comprised of forests, a threatened river system, organic gardens, and heritage houses. This unique combination of sensitive wildlife habitat and agricultural land makes Brooksdale a place where critical environmental issues are researched, addressed, and solved. In addition to running a guest house for overnight retreats, A Rocha welcome interns and volunteers to join in the good work of caring for creation.

You’ll be hearing more about this in the coming months but one practical action you can take is to mark your calendars for the 2nd Sat of each month and consider volunteering a morning of your time down at A Rocha to help out around the property.
