On Sunday, September 13 from 10:30 – 1:00 PM, the community of Willoughby will converge on the Langley Events Centre to:

  • Meet a Canadian athlete vying for a spot at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games
    • Learn what it takes to train for the Olympic Games!
  • Shoot some hoops with TWU’s Lady Spartans
    • Think you have what it takes to play in the CIS? Try your shot at beating a basketball player from the TWU Spartans in a game of P-I-G.  
  • Perfect your slapshot against the Langley Chiefs
    • Get some pointers on your shooting technique from the pros!
  • Go on a tour of the Langley Events Centre
    • Events Centre staff will host 7-10 minute guided tours throughout the centre, giving you the chance to walk throughout the facility - including the arena (home of the Langley Chiefs and Langley Thunders) and gymnasium (home of Trinity Western University basketball and volleyball).
  • Take a tumble in the Langley Gymnastics Foundation activity area
    • Receive some coaching on how to tumble.
  • Find out about the latest on parks, recreation, and culture programming
    • Visit a booth and learn all about the classes and events happening this fall at the Willoughby Community Centre.
  • Browse displays from various community sport groups
    • Athletes in Action will be on-site and available to help you register for Friday Night Basketball.
    • The Tiger Storm demo team from Langley Ti Quan Do will be giving martial arts demostrations.
  • Enjoy a BBQ lunch, live music, kids’ fun zone and much, much more!
    • Lunch will be available beginning at 11:15. Barbecued burgers and hot dogs will be sold for $1.50 and cold drinks and snacks will be available.
    • JRCC's band will be playing live music throughout the morning on the main stage.
    • The Kids' Fun Zone will feature bouncy castles (a mini-bouncer for toddlers and a large castle for younger students) and face-painting.
    • The Willoughby Community Centre will be hosting a variety of games for children to participate in.
